Game description:
Everybody knows Brand cursed the Family as he fell into the Abyss. Nobody
knows what the curse entails, but you have the sneaking suspicion that it's
you. The peace with Chaos has endured and Random is well settled in this reign.
A second generation of Amberites has arisen, brought out if hiding by their
proud parents. It is a generation of fair maidens and promising warriors, and,
well, and then there's you lot. You are the nerds of Amber; clumsy and pale.
When crisis threatens, will you be Amber's downfall?
Premade characters (made by you, mind), based on 120 points. Slightly different
attributes than the usual strength, psyche, endurance and warfare. Powers and
items half price. An extra 10% off artefacts and constructs if I get your character
before the 'con. Heroes need not apply!
Explaining the Powers and Attributes.
Before I start with the explanation, I would like to point out that nothing
of this is written in stone. For a good character concept I will throw it all
out of the window. Anything goes as long as it fits the general mood of this
Nerds in Amber game, and I am aiming for funny and weird, with a touch of drama.
Nerds:
found no description of the word 'nerd' in my dictionary, but to me it means
something like 'social misfit with too much brains'. Try for a character concept
that fits the general idea.
The attributes:
The attributes work slightly different for you.
* Psyche is the attribute that best fits the description as given in the rulebooks,
except for the ability to understand other peoples thoughts and motivations.
* A high endurance will give you the ability to survive indefinitely on, for
instance, pizzas and cola but won't help you if you attempt any sports.
* Warfare helps with hacking, lock picking, design and so on, but is no use
with weapons. Get the idea?
* Strength governs a characters ability to wrestle with critical objects such
as computers, bookcases, home-engineered devices of any sort, etc. A character
with high strength will be exceptionally good at opening computer cases (stubborn
screws), closing them after repair (that puppy's never comin' off there), precisely
placing computer equipment, assembling and setting up book shelves (especially
those constructed of bricks or blocks and planks), etc.
(With special thanks to Linda Cottrell.)
Powers:
All powers half price, even the advanced versions, same goes for items. Go wild
on this. Make up your own variations of the powers, please! Want something exalted?
Go ahead. You will need it. We will discuss the price over EMail, normal mail
or the telephone. I will allow Logrus but am not too keen on shapeshifthing,
but make your own decision.
The setting:
P ost-Patternfall, really. Post Merlin-books too: Merlin is king in Chaos and
all is well. Quiet, at least. Benedict has managed to suppress the use of Corwin's
gunpowder but unfortunately could do nothing about the occasional Ghostwheel-powered
item around the palace and city. You Nerds shun those devices like the plague
because their operating system has more bugs than Bleys has had lovers in his
entire life and besides, what can they do that you and your toys can't do infinitely
better?
In closing:
Perhaps the computer theme came over too strong here. Although I love computer-ish
items and (please) constructs, they are not mandatory. In the playtest there
was a character called Heinrich who could sow bits of animals and stuff together
and then animate them with lightning. His goal: to make a girlfriend for himself.
Good luck everybody, I look forward to seeing your ideas.
