Drawings

the 28th of December, 2004

Time for us to start bragging. This evening, just after dinner, Joris took a big step forward in his development, right under our noses.
He started out by drawing a 'snake' (A); a horizontal line like he has been doing for months.

Joris said: "he can't hiss". I'm asking why, and the answer is "he's too long". So I suggested the snake needed a head. (B) Then he drew another snake (C) but did not concider it a succes. I suggested he'd draw a smaller snake, and that's what Joris did. The little eyes were all his idea (D), just as the next snake with the big round head. (E)

Then I say that to draw a little man, he'd only have to draw the line up-and-down and put the head on top. Drawing F is the result. The eyes and the rest of the doodles in the head are all his idea. He also says that snake D are the arms.

After that Joris draws figurine G all by himself. He says it's angry. H is a flower with leaves, strangely enough. After that, Joris starts to draw line I and mom and dad rescue the drawing by taking the sheet of paper away and promicing yellow custard.

But Joris feels inspired and after desert he draws the next picture:

Isn't it great! Joris says himself that the little man has funny legs. Three legs, according to him.
We quickly take the drawing away and give him a new sheet of paper
.

The smiling face turns out not to be an accident at all!

Then Joris cuts loose . A andB are dark clouds with raindrops. (It snowed for the first time this year). C is a flower with leaves, but he hasn't drawn the flower yet.

In this drawing Joris develops the idea of rain clouds further A and B are clouds again, and C is Barbapappa. Joris was sitting a little to the left of his drawing, so up and down are a little confused here.

In the mean time he has gotten used to the practice of changing sheets of paper every few minutes. He loves this. And so do we.
